Dental Implants

Since the FDA gave its final approval to use MDI (mini dental implants) for long term use, using the mini and hybrid dental implants to replace missing teeth and stabilize loose dentures has become the fastest growing procedure in dentistry today. The fact that these MDI’s are easy to place, can immediately be loaded with force and are about half the price of a conventional implant have made these titanium implants so popular. Placement of these implants is accomplished quickly and easily in the dental office with only local anesthetic. Using a precise, controlled, minimally invasive surgical technique, the MDI implants are placed into the jaw bone, usually with little to no bleeding. Because of the minimally invasive nature of this procedure, MDI placement doesn’t require a lengthy healing period, meaning a crown or denture can immediately be placed.

Solea Laser

Solea is the first laser that can cut any tissue simply by using a variable-speed footpedal, giving the user total control. Its revolutionary software is so simple, any dentist can become a laser dentist. With Solea’s unique wavelength and computer controls, dentists can reliably perform procedures anesthesia-free, blood-free, suture-free and pain-free. For dentists, these are powerful practice growth drivers – for patients it’s getting more done in fewer appointments. No other laser technology delivers such a dramatic reduction to procedure time, enables multi-quadrant dentistry, and allows dentists to perform more soft-tissue procedures that are often referred out.

CEREC Restorations

CEREC dental procedure is a method used by Dr. Sandras not only to replace these fillings, but also to restore any tooth that is decayed, weakened, broken, etc. to its natural strength and beauty. It is done with all-ceramic materials that are tooth colored in a single appointment!

Gum Recession Procedure

This procedure is performed by making a small hole with a needle in the gum tissue. Using specially designed instruments, the gum tissue is loosened and guided over the receded part of the tooth. Since there is no incision or suturing, patients can expect minimal post-operative symptoms (pain, swelling and bleeding). Most patients also are pleasantly surprised by the instant cosmetic improvement.

Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are thin shells of ceramic custom designed, then milled from IPS Empress Porcelain blocks in the office in one visit using the Cerec 3D computer. They are then bonded directly to the front surfaces of teeth. They are the ideal choice for improving your smile and have become increasingly popular due to their simplicity and versatility. Porcelain veneers are among the most conservative of esthetic dental restorations, and offer vitality and beauty that is so life like that people will never doubt that they are your natural teeth. At the same time porcelain veneers are incredibly strong. When bonded, they can actually increase and restore a tooth’s strength. They are virtually undetectable and highly resistant to coffee, tea or even cigarette stains. Amazingly, all of this can be done in one visit.

Cosmetic Gum Reshaping

This treatment involves re-contouring and shaping, the gum tissue that surrounds one or more teeth. It may be performed for functional or aesthetic reasons. Laser gum contouring is used to enhance the patient’s smile. For example, the procedure may be used to improve the appearance of “gummy” smile where the teeth appear too short. The teeth may actually be the proper length, but too much gum covers them. Also, in some cases, the gum line is uneven, which can make the teeth appear irregular. Using a laser, Dr. Sandras can easily and predictably reshape the gum tissue to create a more even and balanced look.

Bridge Procedure

A bridge is a custom made appliance anchored to neighboring teeth that replaces one or more missing teeth. When a lost tooth is replaced with bridge work, the teeth on either side of the missing one are prepared as crowns to serve as abutments to hold the prosthetic (replacement) tooth in place. Bridges are made from superior materials such as porcelain, precious metal or a combination of the two. Aesthetics, function and tissue compatibility are considered when selecting the material most suitable for your needs.

6 Month Smiles

A great alternative to conventional braces. Most adults are unhappy with the appearance of their smile. Crooked teeth make many people self-conscious, reserved or even ashamed of their appearance. But who wants to wear braces for 2-4 years? Now, adults all over the country can smile bigger, brighter and more confidently after wearing braces only 6 months!

Six Month Smiles utilize clear braces to gently straighten teeth in an average of six months. By focusing on the teeth that show when you smile and not making significant bite changes, Dr. Sandras can comfortably straighten your teeth and give you the smile you’ve always wanted.

Six Month Smiles is a conservative, inexpensive and highly effective. It may sound “too good to be true,” but thousands of people are living proof that this is real. You can be next!

Teeth Whitening

Having a beautiful smile may be easier than you think. Many people achieve the look they’ve been dreaming of with our “simple” bleaching procedure. It’s safe, quick and inexpensive. Just let us know at any appointment if you would like to begin bleaching. Dental bleaching can be used to correct many tooth discolorations. These discolorations may have been caused by staining, aging, or chemical damage to teeth. Using the latest in bleaching technology, we can offer a safe method for a beautiful “brilliant” smile. In cases of extreme tooth discoloration or existing filling, crowns or veneers may be the only choice. But because of the low cost of bleaching treatments, bleaching is always worth a solid try.

Partials & Dentures

Replaces missing teeth and fills in space for patients who still have some of their own teeth. This appliance can be designed to replace 1 tooth or 14 teeth in either upper or lower arch. Our standard partial denture is made form a combination of cast chrome alloy and acrylic. It has metal clasps which attach to the patient’s teeth. We also offer a Cosmetic Partial which is metal free. It is made from a flexible tissue colored thermoplastic material called Valplast. With a durable Valplast partial it is almost impossible to tell real from replacement teeth. The results are truly remarkable.

Root Canals

Root canal treatment is probably the most maligned of all dental procedures, but the reputation of pain typically associated with “having a root canal” is really not deserved. For the majority of people who will undergo root canal treatment the process itself will be no more involved then having a filling placed. We do most of our root canals in office using rotary nickel titanium instruments for a quicker, easier and more thorough procedure. There are several reasons why a patient may need a root canal, but the overall objective is to save the tooth.

Full Porcelain Crowns

Our crowns are made in one visit in office using the Cerec 3D porcelain milling technology. No impressions, No temporaries, No second visit, and no dark metal ring around the gum line like you get with traditional porcelain fused to metal crowns. Full porcelain crowns are translucent like a real tooth, therefore they look more natural and can be bonded to the tooth for a better seal.

Meet Dr. Jim Sandras

Ever since he was in the 6th grade, Dr. Jim P. Sandras wanted to be a dentist. He was born and raised on the West Bank of New Orleans, graduated from Archbishop Shaw High School then attended the University of Louisiana Lafayette where he earned a bachelor degree in Biology and Chemistry. That same year he was accepted into the L.S.U. School of Dentistry where he earned a doctors degree in dental surgery. After building a very successful dental practice in New Orleans, he decided to fulfill a lifelong dream – to live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He sold his house and practice in New Orleans and moved 60 miles east to the beautiful coastal town of Pass Christian, Miss.

For the following 15 years Dr. Sandras operated one of the most successful dental practices on the Gulf Coast. Then on August 29th, 2005, Hurricane Katrina completely destroyed the entire region from New Orleans to Mobile. Even after seeing the total destruction of 80% of all the buildings in his town, Dr. Sandras stayed positive, but after six months of living in a disaster zone with no sign of improvements in the near future, he accepted the hard reality that life on the Mississippi Coast would never be the same. He knew it wouldn’t be easy, but decided it was in his children's best interest to move. He literally could’ve moved anywhere in the country. After weeks of research, prayer and visiting dozens of cities, he chose Tuscaloosa. Being a huge sports fan, he loved the idea of living and raising his kids in a college town. But it wasn't just the University of Alabama, or the beautiful rolling hills or the picturesque lakes and rivers that made him want to call "T-town" his home. It was the friendliness of its people.

Dr.Sandras loves dentistry and keeping up with all the latest technologies. His hobbies include aviation - he is an instrument rated pilot with over a thousand hours flying time and holds several other aircraft type ratings, including a license to fly seaplanes. He also enjoys playing golf, tennis and watching SEC football.

CEREC Restorations

CEREC stands for “Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics” and is a computer-aided design and manufacturing system for dentists. CEREC combines a camera, computer, and milling instrument into one machine allowing tooth restorations to be created in the dentist office, all within a single visit.
